How to Prepare for a Well-Child Visit
A well-child visit is a chance to discuss your child’s health, development, and your family’s questions. Your clinician can explain what is relevant for your child and the visit.
Before the appointment
- Write down your most important questions and observations about sleep, eating, behavior, development, or school.
- Ask other caregivers what they would like you to discuss.
- Bring a list of medicines and supplements, any requested forms, and records from other clinicians if available.
- Check with the office about forms or information to complete in advance.
At the appointment
Share your biggest concerns early. Ask what the clinician is checking, what the results mean for your child, and whether any screening or follow-up is recommended. If you do not understand an answer, ask for an explanation in everyday language.
After the appointment
Review the written instructions. Note any next appointment, referral, or question to follow up on. Share relevant information with caregivers who need it, while respecting your child’s privacy. If a recommendation is unclear, contact the care team.
